Area Attractions

There are many wonderful adventures to be found close by Dèja View Farm. Hiking in Vermont or the Adirondacks; fishing or tubing in the Battenkill; sailing on Lake George; antiquing; golf; the list is endless. To help with travel plans, we've prepared a short guide to area attractions.

Greenwich

The village of Greenwich is a mile down the road. Filled with dozens of restored Colonial and Victorian homes, many antique and gift shops are located in it's charming downtown. You'll find a great coffee shop, Something's Brewing, and One One One, recently voted one of the best area restaurants by the local public radio station. Chester A. Arthur grew up in Greenwich, Susan B. Anthony lived just down the road and the country singer, Hal Ketchum was born and raised here. Kim Gannon, the author of "I'll Be Home For Christmas" also called Greenwich home for many years.

Greenwich holds a town wide garage sale every year during May, and celebrates it's history during Whipple City Days, held yearly in June. Events include a 5K run, a soap box derby, craft vendors and concerts at the 19th century gazebo in the center of town.

The Battenkill River, one of the best trout fishing streams in the Northeast flows through the center of the village, on its way to the Hudson. Hidden away from most visitors, is a picnic area along the banks of the river. There are a number of bridges to fish from and public access points along the river, upstream towards Vermont.

For those who love to prowl through old cemeteries, you'll find one worth stopping at on the way into the village from Dèja View Farm, just past the garden center.

For additional information about Greenwich, visit the websites for the Greater Greenwich Chamber of Commerce and Washington County.

Located halfway between Greenwich and Schuylerville, just a few minutes from Deja View Farm, is the Washington County Fairgrounds. It's home to one of the largest and oldest agricultural fairs in New York. It's a true family fair, filled with animals, food and midway attractions. No alcohol, but plenty of tractor pulls and a demolition derby not to be missed.

More information about the Fair is available here.
